“And of the children of Issachar, which were men that had understanding of the times, to know what Israel ought to do;”
(1 Chronicles 12:32a).
According to my hero in the faith, the late Dr. John C. Whitcomb, there are eight times as many references in the Old Testament to Christ’s second coming as there are to His first. This is because our God knows exactly how we think and feel (Psalm 103:13-14; Hebrews 4:15). He knows that we must have some idea of where the world is headed, how things are going to turn out, in order for us to function properly. In short, we need to have some assurance that the future will be better than today and that this blessed future state will never again lapse into the depravity, darkness, and danger we see in the world today. We need real hope. God knows this, and He has given us a clear picture of the events that will precede, accompany, and follow His return. We would do well to take heed to His word, which shines like a light in a dark place (2 Peter 1:19). His blessed word is calculated to give us patience, comfort, and hope (Romans 15:4), and we know that this hope does not disappoint (Romans 5:5). He Who promised is faithful (Hebrews 10:23), and we may be very sure that things will unfold exactly as the Bible predicts. You and I are called not only to be like the noble Bereans, who searched the Scriptures daily (Acts 17:11), but like the sons of Issachar, who had understanding of the times as well. At His first coming, the Lord chided the religious leaders, saying to them, “When it is evening, ye say, It will be fair weather: for the sky is red. And in the morning, It will be foul weather to day: for the sky is red and lowring. O ye hypocrites, ye can discern the face of the sky; but can ye not discern the signs of the times?” (Matthew 16:2-3). Of all the people in the world today, it is the Christians who ought to have the clearest understanding of the times we are living in. We have, after all, a completed Bible, which outlines the chronology of end times events in detail. We also have the Blessed Holy Spirit of God Himself, the Divine Author of the Holy Scriptures (2 Peter 1:20-21) residing in us. “Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God” declared the great apostle Paul (1 Corinthians 2:12). Today, Israel is back in her land, just as the Scriptures prophesied, and she is ripe to be led astray by the false promises of the man of sin (Daniel 9:27; John 5:43; 2 Thessalonians 2:3-4). Today we have at long last the technological infrastructure to implement a worldwide digital I.D. / currency system, exactly matching the system described in Revelation 13. As the darkness around us deepens, let us remember that Light is about to dawn. For those who eagerly look for Christ, He shall appear the second time without sin unto salvation (Hebrews 9:28; Philippans 3:20-21). Hallelujah and Maranatha!
God bless you dear saints,
