“Indeed, let God be true but every man a liar.” Romans 3:4
The consistent, spiritually mature Christian is self-consciously aware that God is the ultimate point of reference; He is back of literally everything. God is the objective Identifier of every single fact in the created order and He has given every thing an identity as it relates to His plan. Things are what He says they are, no matter what unaided human reason may reveal. Paul reminds us that it is “God, who gives life to the dead and calls those things which do not exist as though they did” (Romans 4:17). This passage always reminds me of how the Lord raised Jairus’ young daughter from the dead. When He entered the room where the dead child was, He found people wailing and mourning. “He said to them,’Make room, for the girl is not dead, but sleeping.’ And they ridiculed Him” (Matthew 9:24). Mark explains that after He removed the unbelievers, “He took the child by the hand, and said to her, ‘Talitha, cumi,’ which is translated, ‘Little girl, I say to you, arise.’ Immediately the girl arose and walked, for she was twelve years of age. And they were overcome with great amazement” (Mark 5:41-42). Those that ridiculed the Lord honestly thought they new better; the little girl appeared obviously, unmistakably, dead. But Jesus said otherwise. Those that doubted him, even on the authority of their own personal experience and rational intellect, were totally wrong. May we learn to trust the Lord always, whatever outward appearances or contrary opinions may indicate. Let God be true, but every man a liar!
God bless you, dear saint. Walk strong in the Lord today!
