“Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful.” Hebrews 10:23
God knows that we struggle with many things and that we often find ourselves troubled and wavering in our faith. Instead of condemning us for our weakness, the Lord has compassion on us, regarding us as a loving father regards his children (Psalm 103:13-14). In order to strengthen and comfort us, God has given us His word, which is replete not only with precious promises to us, but with references to His faithfulness and dependability. God would have us to pause and reflect upon His own morally-perfect, proven character. Two things immediately come to mind. First, we see God’s faithfulness and dependability in the law-like regularity of natural processes. Every minute of every day we depend on God for regularity in the natural world. We expect the sun to come up and to set again. We expect the moon to remain in the sky and not go careening away from us or fall to the earth. We expect the seasons to change in their regular course and for heavy objects to fall downward (and not upwards!) The list could go on indefinitely. This observed and expected regularity speaks of the dependability and faithfulness of our God. Secondly, there is the astounding fact of fulfilled prophecy. Most notably, God spoke of His coming into the world in the Person of His dear Son, the Lord Jesus. He spoke of Christ’s incarnation and virgin birth, His miraculous redemptive ministry and resurrection from the dead. These amazing promises were fulfilled to the letter. We therefore have every reason to expect that God will do for us all that He promised. With a believing heart, reflect on those precious promises today. Be blessed and encouraged, dear child of God.
